With reference to your Despatch No. 282

Of the 3rd. September last and previous correspondence on the

subject of the Staff of the Colonial Secretary's Office, I

have the honour to inform you that Mr. F. F. Remedios, 3rd.

Clerk, has retired on pension eving to ill health.

His pension was reduced from $451.14 to $400 be-

cause the Head of the Department was unable to certify that

he had discharged his duties in an entirely satisfactory

manner.

I have now to recommend that Mr. F. X. H.

Rozario, 4th, Clerk, be promoted to be 3rd. Clerk on a salary

of $1,200 rising to $1,800 per annum and that the 5th., 6th.,

and 7th. Clerks he each promoted a step in consequence at

their present rate of pay.

For the vacancy thus created in the 7th. Clerkship,

I have provisionally and subject to veur approval appointed

Mr. Fung Yuk-Kau, Clerk and Interpreter at the Gaol, who has

8 years' service and is a deserving Officer.

Mr. Remedios was employed in the Registry

and the most suitable Officer both on account of training and

nationality to take his place is Mr. F. Rapp, 8th. (Temporary)
